Lesson 2 / 10

How much will it cost?

On the ground, budget around €60 per day per person as a backpacker, €140 in comfort and €300 in luxury, excluding transport to Slovenia. A one-week trip for two in comfort mode comes to about €2,300-2,400 in total with the flight, close to €1,150 per person.

Slovenia remains roughly 20-30% cheaper than France for accommodation and dining, and clearly more affordable than neighbouring Austria or Italy. These are indicative estimates, updated for 2026.

Daily budget by travel style

  • Backpacker (≈ €60/day): accommodation €20-25 a night, food €15-18 a day, local transport €8, activities €8. Think hostel, simple meals and public transport.
  • Comfort (≈ €140/day): accommodation €55-70, food €35-45, local transport €20 (car rental included in this style), activities €22. Think 3-star hotel and restaurants.
  • Luxury (≈ €300/day): accommodation €120-150, food €70-90, local transport €40, activities €48. Think 4-5-star hotel, fine dining and premium activities.

What a week really costs

For 7 days and two people, including the flight: around €1,100 in backpacker mode, €2,300-2,400 in comfort mode and around €4,600 in luxury mode. A return flight to Ljubljana from major European hubs runs about €150-220.

Where and when prices move

  • Location: Ljubljana and Lake Bled are the priciest areas; the east of the country and the countryside are very economical.
  • Low season (November to March, excluding holidays) saves around 20% on accommodation.
  • High season (July-August) pushes prices up by about 25%, especially in Bled and on the coast.
  • May-June and September offer the best price/weather ratio.

Easy ways to save

  • Look for the daily menu (dnevno kosilo) in a gostilna at lunchtime: soup, main and salad for €8-12.
  • Spend a few nights in the east or in a tourist farm rather than only around Bled.
  • If you drive, remember the motorway vignette: €16 a week for a car.

Key takeaway: plan around €140 per person per day for a comfortable trip, and travel in May-June or September for the best value.
